Why Do I Illustrate? Ask my Wife

Have you ever been asked why you do something? Not necessarily the how you do it, but the why. Why do I draw? Why do I create digital illustrations? Is it because they tell me I'm good at it?

No.

Believe it or not, there was a time when I considered giving up drawing entirely. And even now there is one thing that can make me feel 100% confident and never look back if I ever did decide to put an end to my art career.
...

My love of art, drawing, illustrating...whatever you may call it began at a young age. What can I say, it was a part of who I was. I identified myself with my artwork, and my creations each carried a piece of me (or at least, a story to tell). All of that changed, in 2006. My world was turned upside down when I met her.

I fell head over heals when we met at Church. We married in 2008 and have been together now for over 5 1/2 years. It was the best thing to ever happen to me.

There was a time when I would have given up my dreams of being an artist just to be with her. Nothing in the world mattered more than to be by her side everyday. She confidently assured me to not give up my talent and she even became my partner when it came to art. For the first few years of our lives together we became The Adventure Team. This was the avatar we used during our days on DeviantArt.com, and some of our older artwork may still have the AT Logo.

Recently, Shiloh J Ville has been busy working on her own goal of becoming a Christian Fantasy author. A story is currently in the works, of which I will be illustrating. So, our partnership is still in full effect.

Today is Shiloh's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUN! As I reflect on our accomplishments and future goals, I want to once again express my commitment to her with an affirmation that even to this day, I will gladly give up the pen and digital canvas for you.

Shiloh, you are the reason that I illustrate and you are the reason that I am able to live happily even if I did not draw ever again. Time and time again I gave my art to you because that is the way I give. But today, I want to give you myself, completely and no strings attached, to you. I promise to keep my eyes on you everyday, because you are more important to me than my work.
