Written by: Shiloh Morgan Ville It is finished!! Woo hoo! Wow, did we underestimate the time and complexity of this project. A reminder to ourselves for future projects, don’t draw bookshelves with tons of detail! It is so tedious to color… but I have to admit it looks pretty good. 10 Comments Written by: Shiloh Morgan Ville My husband decided that I should write Part Two of the Bryan Davis Tribute. He said it was to “keep the theme” but I’m pretty sure it’s because he’s being lazy. :P I don’t blame him. It’s enough work to create an illustration let alone think of an entire piece to write about it. Especially when rambling does not come easy to him as it does to me. ;) I have always wanted to write an article about Bryan Davis, and now I have an excuse to do so! You see, I’ve had this image in my mind for a couple of months and I have been harassing my husband to illustrate it. I imagined Bryan sitting at his desk, typing away on his laptop, and above him there would be dragons from his books (Dragons in Our Midst, Oracles of Fire, Starlighter, etc.). Hearing my idea, my husband would nod and smile, saying, “That sounds cool.” The picture however would simply be another idea on a giant 'to do' list. My wife, Shiloh, and I are very lucky. We are fortunate enough to have great friends. Not just good friends, but great friends. The kind you can depend on when times get tough. I hope you have someone like that in your life. Alisha has already been mentioned earlier as a very talented lady. But when her husband's birthday came up, guess what I decieded to give them as a gift... Earlier in the year, I was informed by a friend that somebody was experiencing some very serious health issues. I'm not a doctor, so I couldn't really understand the condition or offer any advice. But I was informed that they were a fan of Bryan Davis, a wonderful Christian Fantasy Storyteller. He's most well known for writing the acclaimed Dragons in Our Midst series. Back in my high school days, I spent most of my weekends Super Smashing with a small group of friends. One of them, Edgar Corona, would usually play as Mario and he is still one of the most skilled players I know. Today, I am dedicating this picture to Edgar Corona and his wife to be, Gabby Staten. May your marriage be filled with many happy moments and hopefully some Smash Bros every now and than. And may Gabby never grow tired of the many video game references. Shiloh and I still think you should have Mario and Peach on top of your cake.
I can not take full credit for the picture you are about to see. I first saw this digitally airbrushed painting when it was in its early stages. My wife had spent four hours laying down the foundations. She had painted me in a knight’s armor because she said that this is how she wanted me to feel, like a hero. It was meant to be an anniversary gift, but she couldn’t wait to show me.
My wife and I have been thinking about gifts a lot lately. We have to buy some for our children, parents, brothers and sisters. However, we both believe the greatest gifts are not the ones we buy from the store but the ones we make. Which gave us the bright idea of this post.
What are my favorite gifts that I have made for people? I have a few. We'll start with the very first portrait that I did of my wife. |
